So apparently I do recs of lovely smutty fics on this blog now. Well, so be it.

This is hurt/comfort with Dom!servicetop!Aziraphale and just-a-tiny-bit-whumped!subbier-than-expected!Crowley. This is rather at odds with my natural reading of the characters, but I don't much care in this case, because it (a) is wholly in character all the way through, and (b) has one of the best drops-into-subspace I have read anywhere, including in most BDSM instructional books. Also, as in canon, Anathema is the one who actually understands what is going on, and Newt is surprisingly helpful when nudged. By Anathema.

Oh, it's also a Christmas fic, mostly for the sake of a joke about hearing the angels sing, but don't worry too much about that part, it's just set dressing.

Okay, so I don't often do fic recommendations and never before on this blog, but my readers, I have found a fic so near and dear to my heart I cannot imagine why I didn't think of this myself. But I didn't, and this writer did, and I am so happy my chest might burst.

So let me lay out the warnings first: this is fundamentally a ravishment fantasy fic, although the author doesn't use those terms, and as such is kinky as fuck. It is also the first time our bene elohim have done something properly kinky, and the fic is a beautiful roadmap of How To Do Your First Kinky Stuff Correctly. There is explicit negotiated consent, boundaries set, a safeword chosen, and they even both discuss aftercare *for the top too* ahead of time and then actually do it. There is so much consent. There is a realistic 'top drop' moment. This is juicy and amazing and relatable and slightly awkward in that way that first scenes are. Given that I read Aziraphale as the bottomiest power bottom to ever bottom and Crowley as a service top, this was perfect and amazing. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Aziraphale/Crowley (Good Omens)
Characters: Aziraphale (Good Omens), Crowley (Good Omens)
Additional Tags: Established Relationship, Kink Negotiation, Sexual Roleplay, Cuddling & Snuggling, Rape Roleplay
Summary:

From the kinkmeme: "rape fantasy, Aziraphale might have fantasized a fair amount about Crowley tempting him quite forcefully, with lots of talk about how he'll be tainted, how he'll Fall just like he did so long ago. When they get together post-Apocalypse, Aziraphale shares his fantasies with Crowley and he's happy to indulge them."

Established relationship, feat. consent, negotiation, safewords, and cuddling after.

They didn’t choose a particular time or place, but that Friday, when Aziraphale let himself into his upstairs flat after a long day of refusing to sell a single book to find Crowley sprawled in the most comfortable armchair, he just sort of knew.

“Angel,” said Crowley by way of greeting.

“Demon,” said Aziraphale, trying hard to remember the polite, distant way he’d addressed Crowley several thousand years ago. Smiling was right out, he knew that much. He could already feel his breath quickening.

Okay, Mercury is in Retrograde in Leo, it's time to finish this giant pile of smut.

Not very hurt/comfort-y, though.

Call Me A Doctor - Doctor Insano gets to stretch his M.D., on his archenemy no less. Warning for medical stuff, general blood and gore, and offscreen violence.

A few of you may know that I fic under several different names, and unlike most of the people who do that, it's not necessarily because I use different pen names in different fandoms, although there is a bit of that.

Quite a while ago, I made a promise to someone who read my main nom de Internet fics that they could browse that handle's work and not worry about ever stumbling across anything that resembled explicit RPS. This was partially due to some internal politics in one of our primary shared fandoms at the time, and partially because RPF in general was a squick of theirs, especially if it involved Teh Sexx. I don't honestly know if they still read my work, but I want to honor that promise, which means there are a number of things I don't want to post under that handle. (As a secondary consideration, one of my other cursor names is also the name I use on Patreon, and while I don't actually think any of the content creators I Patreonize would bother Googling my Patreon handle elsenet, it seems rude to leave a potential trail of bread crumbs to fics involving their personae gettin' busy.)

I don't think of most of the reviewerverse fics as RPF on the technicality that I'm writing about the characters they're playing, not them. I try to stick to clear personas, ones that have their own lore and everything. But I do realize that's a fine technicality indeed in some cases, so I'd rather err on the side of caution where that promise is concerned.

There are moments in one's fannish life when one needs to ask, "How did I get here?" (*Pauses for a moment to let David Byrne repeat "Same as it ever was," to fade-out.*)

Being a person who is On The Internet, I had been aware of Doug Walker/The Nostalgia Critic/That Guy With the Glasses in a vague sort of way for quite a while, and The Angry Video Game Nerd in an even vaguer one, back when LJ was still a thing and I had never heard of Tumblr. But prior to late 2011, I rarely if ever paid attention to web video as a medium, partly because if we went much further back than that my broadband connection wasn't really good enough. The first of what we might refer to as the denizens of the Reviewerverse that I actually started watching was Yahtzee, somewhere around the fall of 2011; from there, I discovered MovieBob via The Big Picture and Escape to the Movies, Jim Sterling via the Jimquisition, and a few others (Extra Credits and Loading Ready Run in particular, although EC made their exit from the Escapist not long after).

I became a fan of MovieBob in particular, and found his other long-running series, the Game OverThinker; this was the first time I went back and schlurped up a reviewer's entire canon - and the first one with story segments. It took them a while to grow on me (especially since his early ones were, to be blunt, terrible), but grow they did. At some point, one of his fans on whom they had not grown, not even a little, told him to stop trying to be Linkara. This piqued my interest, but upon investigating, I decided I wasn't sufficiently interested in comics for that to be worth my time. More fool me.

MovieBob and Jim Sterling were why I, as someone who was profoundly Not The Target Audience, decided to go to SGC 2013 anyway. (Dallas is a cheap trip from here.) I know I saw at least one panel with Spoony on it, but I'll be honest - I don't remember anything about it. I have a vague memory of MarzGurl also being on a panel, but I could be mixing her up with someone else. Getting to have an actual conversation with MovieBob and a small group of other fans was worth the trip, but I haven't been tempted to go back to SGC since then.

I drifted out of fandom to some extent in the back half of 2013 through the first half of 2014. Around October-ish of 2014, my housemate stumbled across Todd in the Shadows on Twitter and followed the link to Blip. This resulted in us mainlining both Todd and the Rap Critic over Thanksgiving and Winter Breaks that year. That was, after all this time, our entry into the TGWTG/Chez Apocalypse/Channel Awesome web video world. And that led to Brows Held High, and that led to - finally - Atop the 4th Wall. It was at this point that I found out what MovieBob had been palely imitating, and what Lewis had done with it in the intervening two and a half years. It also led to the Channel Awesome anniversary movies, and while most of them are various shades of terrible (from just amateurish to entertainingly awful), I do think Suburban Knights mostly holds up as a story on its own and I wish there were more to the shared 'verse in that vein.

The rest, you can see here, more or less. After my standard method of tripping over people on the web far later than they deserve, though, I have found one more to add to this pile of web personalities, and I have Lindsay to thank for it.

After some kerfluffle involving the hotdogs-to-the-face gif being used without her permission (in February-ish? of this year), she mentioned that she had properly licensed it to someone else, and then in April linked to that video when it came out. The video in question was a brief educational video about framerates, using a parodic homage to the hotdogs in which the host takes a lovingly-restaged faceful of frankfurters - to a curiously silvered face, in an accent I couldn't place. I filed this away for later, it having aired after Spring Break and me having no time to investigate. More or less by whim of the Algorithm, the same video resurfaced in my YouTube recommendations, and my curiosity about why this CD dude who looked a little like he could be the older brother of Alec from Technology Connections (another YouTuber worth a look, BTW, but persona-less and therefore not fair game for fic even by my admittedly loose standards) and was covering semi-adjacent material was wearing a half-face of chrome.

It turns out he's a viral video debunker, the last skeptic-community YouTuber left standing who has neither turned fashy nor fallen into the protective orbit of the Vlogbrothers, working on a semi-pivot into proper Educational YouTube, and he's been here since 2007! Even better - he's had at least vague hints of storyline since the beginning, and since digital visual effects are (well, were, before Patreon) his day job, they were never terrible. Like MovieBob and Linkara both, he starts with white-dude politics that leave a metallic bitter taste across several of his early videos - and like them, he largely outgrew them when the online world turned into a trash fire around him. (Again, praise to Lindsay; without her implicit stamp of approval I might have choked on some of the early stuff.) Like MovieBob but unlike Linkara, Captain Disillusion does not have nearly enough fanfic, and I think it's high time that changed.

Sorry, y'all, the last school year kicked my ass and I was barely able to get done my RL writing obligations, much less my fannish ones.

I am going to finish Geometric Proof; I actually have about half of the rest written and it just needs editing, then I need to write the last chapter and the epilogue. I realize part of it got jossed in the interim, but I think I'm just going to ignore that part.

I'm not sure, given the Change the Channel movement, whether I want to finish a couple of other things that involve the other characters. On the one hand, the personae aren't responsible for their actors being dicks, and I tend to write the Critic as an asshole anyway, but - yeesh. I think I'll try and stick with At4W for a while.

Well, except - I may have stumbled on a new fandom, another YouTuber who has a persona and skits and an implied background world of superheroics, and has been around at least as long as At4W. I got all excited, and then started searching for fic - and there's almost nothing. 3 fics on Ao3, and one of them barely counts. None of them even the least bit raunchy. There's a little bit of fanart out there, but nothing interesting, mostly just portraits of the main character. Ugh. This is what happens when you fail to attract an appropriate number of screaming fangirls, isn't it? And I'm used to doing the small-fandom thing, but only three writers is no fun.

I have, in an open window right now, 27,000 words of smut (a) in a tiny fandom (b) in which a significant portion of the fic-reading fandom doesn’t read smut (c) which includes a pairing that’s a NoTP for at least one person who would normally read it and (d) which includes a kink in one scene that is likely to squick out at least one other potential reader.

And I have three scenes left to go.

Someone please shoot me.
